Summer Term Projects – WWII

The time is now everyone!

Remember that your Home Learning Projects are due on the 12th July. This is published on the guidesheet as a Monday, but it is infact Tueday. No matter, I will be happy for them to arrive on either day! But no later please because I will have to start reading them straight away!

Don’t forget:

You must choose a minimum of 8 activities to do.  You must do at least 1 from each section, but not more than 3 from one section.

Your aim is to complete at least 20 points (Points in Brackets). Think carefully about which activities you can do to balance sections and points.

You must complete the tasks and put them into a folder or a scrapbook.

This shouldn’t necessarily be a solo project, unless you want it to be of course, get the grown-ups involved too, draw upon the skills of parents, grandparents, older (or younger!) brothers and sisters. These people LOVE a challenge – but they SHOULD NOT be doing it for you!

If you have any queries, questions or concerns – just ask Mr Watson.

I know that people have been very busy and have put loads of thought and attention to detail into this project and I am sure that the standard will again be incredibly high as it has been for the last 2 terms. The bar was set high with your ‘Coasts’ work – so be sure to match it!

WWII Art

Now that we have worked on our Propaganda Posters, the final part of the Art this term is to select an image of WWII that inspires you in some way.

Anything goes, as long as it interesting to you.

If you have something ‘personal’ or relating to your family then that’s great – but it doesn’t have to be.

Here are some examples:

We are going to think how we might use it to create a piece of Artwork.

The results should prove interesting as your skills are really developing well!

Sounds

In science, we are learning about sound, how sound is created and how it travels.

If you watch this video made up of different sounds from the home, can you think of specific words to describe specific sounds:

Words like:

vibration, pitch, high, low, loud, soft, ear, solid, liquid, air, instrument, tension, tight, noise, tuned, percussion, muffle, soundproof, sound wave, frequency, amplitude, wave length

Might be useful.

It is very clever – see what ideas you can come up with!

Wolds Small Schools Football League

(League Table is incorrect at present – Update to follow)

Congratulations to the football team, as they won both their matches on Friday night against Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe.

East Wold now top the table, having won 4 out of their 5 matches. 

It was fabulous to host teams from Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe into what turned into a mini-tournament.

Great support was give from staff and pupils from all 3 schools. Matches were played in great spirit and with great determination.

East Wold 7 – 0 Theddlethorpe

It was brilliant to have almost the whole squad in attendance to cheer on the players and help as Ball Boys, to keep the games running smoothly. It is so good that everyone gets involved in the matches, even if they aren’t on the pitch. Without that help and support it is so much more difficult.

Special thanks go to Mrs Stubbs and Mrs Laughton for again manning the refreshments! Greatfully recieved ladies.

I will try to fit in one final match before the season can be declared over.

Litter – A Poem by Mr Watson

I rather enjoyed the brilliant poems and commentaries that Y6 write and so I thought I would have a go too!

Litter

 

Chuck it, lob it, drop it and throw it!

Why bother to keep it,

Just for the sake of it?

It doesn’t matter!

I really don’t care.

If I don’t even look, it’s not even there.

 

Grab it, leave it, use it and abuse it!

Why bother to put it,

In a bin just to tidy it?

It’s not my problem,

I really don’t care.

If I don’t even look, it’s not even there.

 

Put it, pick it, recycle it and reuse it!

Should I just do it,

Just for the ease of it?

It really does matter!

About this Poem:

The best way to describe litter is to say it is waste in the wrong place. That is, rather than being placed in a bin or other waste container waste is left on the pavement, park or school field.

Litter is untidy and unsightly and can affect people’s view on the quality and safety of an area. Litter can consist of anything from a tiny sweet wrapper or an empty sandwich box to a discarded mattress in a public park. The majority of litter comes from people dropping it either on purpose or by accident, although some litter comes from other sources, for example wind-blown or natural litter.

I wrote this poem after having driven into work one morning past a series of fresh fly-tipping sites. There were a number of piles of household waste, builders waste as well as standard rubbish, such as plastic bottles and food packaging.

We all have a duty to dispose of litter in a responsible way. Fly-tipping and dropping rubbish on the ground is not responsible.

Tangled

Tangled, mangled in the sea

Strained ’til someone sees.

Plastic, cotton will be there to.

This poem is telling you that you don’t need to drive everywhere, you have feet so you can walk.

If we drive everywhere we will make fumes that will pollute the earth and we don’t want that to happen.

So, if it’s close, don’t use the car, get on your feet and walk!

The Poaching Plot

I was there by the trees,

Watching my fellow animals get killed

and hearing the screams of their pain,

I could imagine them crying in my head

and suddenly they were after me – so I had to run for my life

Then I heard a bang then I realised I was gone.

As an example there are only a couple of hundreds of tigers in the today.

I maybe just human, but the longer I live.

About the poem

I wrote this poem because people are using far too much electricity and are polluting our planet. The ways people can stop this is are things as simple as low energy light bulbs, turning off the TV, sharing cars and many other low energy activities.

The man in this poem uses almost as much electricity as is physically possible. This poem is an example of the worse possible pollution. Although this poem sounds slightly exaggerated we still make a lot of pollution.

In the UK we spend 2.4 billion pounds. If every house hold in Britain had one energy saving light bulb we would save enough carbon to fill the royal Albert hall over 1,980 times. Over 900 million pounds worth of energy is wasted on people leaving machines on stand by. If every house hold in Britain were to turn the TV of at the plug when it is not in use we would save over half of that amount. If every house hold in Britain were to switch their cold appliances to energy saving cold appliances. We would save enough carbon dioxide to fill 24 million double Decker buses.

This poem is about litter destroying animals and smokers are hurting their own lungs so stopping it is for their own good.

Also if you waste things and just throw them in the bin it just goes to landfill.

The British Monarchy

With the impending Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, we have been looking at the history of the British and English monarchy since 1066 (You have to stop somewhere!)

We have been practising this rhyme to help us to remember the Kings and Queens from William I (The Conqueror) to Elizabeth II (Our present Queen).

Class 4 – Home Learning Project – Summer 2011

I can honestly say that I was astounded by the standard of  last terms ‘Home Learning Project’.

It was such a pleasure to read the work that had gone into the ‘Coasts’ project!

Thanks to all the adults that helped and supported the children through their work – it was truly excellent!

They should be on display very soon in school.

OK everyone, I introduced this to you in class today.

World War II – Project

This time you are going to create your own folder/file/scrapbook of tasks related to this terms topic – ‘World War II’.

The tasks fit into different categories like KNOWLEDGE, COMPREHENSION, APPLICATION, ANALYSIS, EVALUATION and SYNTHESIS. Each of these requires you to use different skills.

You get to choose what to do and how much because each activity has a ‘Points Value’.

You need to score AT LEAST 20 pts in AT LEAST 8 activities (You can score more and complete more tasks!)

The final presentation can be very personal and as long as it fulfills the instructions it will be fine!
