Wolds Small Schools Football League

Posted by eastwoldblog on May 15, 2011

(League Table is incorrect at present – Update to follow)

Congratulations to the football team, as they won both their matches on Friday night against Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe.

East Wold now top the table, having won 4 out of their 5 matches.

It was fabulous to host teams from Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe into what turned into a mini-tournament.

Great support was give from staff and pupils from all 3 schools. Matches were played in great spirit and with great determination.

East Wold 6 – 0 Saltfleetby

Saltfleetbly 0 – 1 Theddlethorpe

East Wold 7 – 0 Theddlethorpe

It was brilliant to have almost the whole squad in attendance to cheer on the players and help as Ball Boys, to keep the games running smoothly. It is so good that everyone gets involved in the matches, even if they aren’t on the pitch. Without that help and support it is so much more difficult.

Special thanks go to Mrs Stubbs and Mrs Laughton for again manning the refreshments! Greatfully recieved ladies.

I will try to fit in one final match before the season can be declared over.

The Blog Review for 2010…

Posted by eastwoldblog on January 2, 2011

Thanks to the team at WordPress for this analysis of our class blog:

——————————————————

The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com mulled over how this blog did in 2010, and here’s a high level summary of its overall blog health:

Healthy blog!

The Blog-Health-o-Meter™ reads Wow.

About 3 million people visit the Taj Mahal every year. This blog was viewed about 29,000 times in 2010. If it were the Taj Mahal, it would take about 4 days for that many people to see it.

In 2010, there were 75 new posts, not bad for the first year! There were 125 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 30mb. That’s about 2 pictures per week.

The busiest day of the year was October 19th with 348 views. The most popular post that day was A Cuneiform Alphabet.

Where did they come from?

The top referring sites in 2010 were iqacademywi.blackboard.com, schools-online.org, en.wordpress.com, 74.125.67.100, and facebook.com.

Some visitors came searching, mostly for cuneiform alphabet, cuneiform, mesopotamian cuneiform alphabet, the highwayman poem, and the highwayman by alfred noyes.

Handball

Posted by eastwoldblog on August 30, 2010

Here is a video of the sport of ‘Handball’.

Yes, it is a sport not just a rule infringement in Football!

I thought it would be good to learn a different ball sport.

I knew about it before and it is MASSIVELY popular in Europe, especially Germany and Scandinavia.

After watching this video and others like it, I have decided that this looks fast paced and exciting!

Watch and enjoy!

Do you think that you have these skills?

What skills do you think you need?

Let me know on here and then I can make sure that we practice them!

A Little Bonus Challenge:

How many countries can you name that appear in the video?

(Which I believe is from the 2007 World Championships)

I don’t have the answer so the prize is the credit for naming them!

Maths Mania 2010

Posted by eastwoldblog on May 12, 2010

On Wednesday 12th May an intrepid team of Y5 boys, travelled to Horncastle Community Primary School to participate in the 7th and final heat of the Lincolnshire “Maths Mania” Y5 Challenge.

On arrival they were greeted by 10 other teams of Number Hungry pupils.

The brave East Wold team, persevered though taxing rounds of Estimation, Calculation, Memory, Puzzles, Mysteries and Challenges – which even Mr Watson and the gathered parents found a little tricky at times.

Mr Dunn had his laptop (but that’s cheating!)

How did our plucky boys think they had done?

By their own admission – “We don’t think we’ve done that well!”

But did they enjoy it?

A resounding “Yes” and suggestions that perhaps there was the chance to have even harder questions next year! (They can say that because of course they won’t be doing it next year!)

THE RESULTS:

1st Place – St Andrew’s Primary – Woodhall Spa (41 pts)

2nd Place – East Wold Primary – Legbourne (35 pts)

3rd Place – Horncastle Community Primary – Horncastle (34 pts)

Perhaps Luke, Ben, Connor & Stephen were not very judges of their abilities after all!

So pleased and proud of you boys – a really impressive achievement!

Congratulations!

Not quite good enough to reach the final at RAF Cranwell, but fantastic nonetheless!

Try to answer this question from the Competition:

My age is a multiple of 8.

Next year it is a multiple of 7.

How old am I?

Answers in the comments box please!
