Hi, I’m a fellow primary school teacher like yourself and was inspired by your blog to produce one of my own. I have just been in a meeting with my headteacher and the senior management team who have requested that I remove the blog because of safeguarding issues I was just wondering how you established your site? My blog is …

I would expect that having it set as ‘private’ and ‘invitation only’ should be enough.

I don’t use photographs of children and if I do then I don’t show faces, I use first names only or initials if naming children and I ensure that all comments need to be moderated by me before being published.

Safeguarding is a key issue but with the application of care and common sense it can be managed.

I have been running and using class and school blogs for 3 and a half years now and have never had issue from school, staff, leadership, parents or pupils. In fact, generally my work has been praised and even used as exemplars at LEA level for other schools to follow.

I find it best to start by working with the SMT to discuss the applications and benefits, as well as setting ground rules for practice and I would hope that the use of a blog could be negotiated.

I hope this is of some help!

      Mr W.
