Wolds Small Schools Football League

Posted by eastwoldblog on May 15, 2011

(League Table is incorrect at present – Update to follow)

Congratulations to the football team, as they won both their matches on Friday night against Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe.

East Wold now top the table, having won 4 out of their 5 matches.

It was fabulous to host teams from Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe into what turned into a mini-tournament.

Great support was give from staff and pupils from all 3 schools. Matches were played in great spirit and with great determination.

East Wold 6 – 0 Saltfleetby

Saltfleetbly 0 – 1 Theddlethorpe

East Wold 7 – 0 Theddlethorpe

It was brilliant to have almost the whole squad in attendance to cheer on the players and help as Ball Boys, to keep the games running smoothly. It is so good that everyone gets involved in the matches, even if they aren’t on the pitch. Without that help and support it is so much more difficult.

Special thanks go to Mrs Stubbs and Mrs Laughton for again manning the refreshments! Greatfully recieved ladies.

I will try to fit in one final match before the season can be declared over.

The Wolds Sport Partnership Football Tournament

Posted by eastwoldblog on October 19, 2010

Tuesday 19th October

The School Football Club competed in the “The Wolds Schools Sport Partnership Football Tournament” at London Road Sports Ground.

There were 7 teams taking part, 2 from Holton-le-Clay and Lacey Gardens, East Wold, North Cockerington and Louth St Michael’s.

The tournament formed a league with each team playing each other once.

The winning team would progress to represent the Louth area at the County Championships. The ‘Small Schools’ Championship would be decided between East Wold and North Cockerington in the final match of the tournament.

East Wold performed admirably with all members of the 10-man squead playing their part. The boys were good sportsmen and team players throughout the matches.

Match 1: East Wold 0 – 2 St Michael’s

Match 2: Lacey Gardens ‘B’ 0 – 2 East Wold (Addison 2)

Match 3: Holton-le-Clay ‘A’ 2 – 1 East Wold (Byrne)

Match 4: Lacey Gardens ‘A’ 0 – 0 East Wold

Match 5: East Wold 1 – 0 Holton-le-Clay ‘B’ (Addison (pen))

Match 6 SMALL SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP: East Wold 0 – 1 North Cockerington

East Wold PWDLFAGD -1  PTS 7

Handball

Posted by eastwoldblog on August 30, 2010

Here is a video of the sport of ‘Handball’.

Yes, it is a sport not just a rule infringement in Football!

I thought it would be good to learn a different ball sport.

I knew about it before and it is MASSIVELY popular in Europe, especially Germany and Scandinavia.

After watching this video and others like it, I have decided that this looks fast paced and exciting!

Watch and enjoy!

Do you think that you have these skills?

What skills do you think you need?

Let me know on here and then I can make sure that we practice them!

A Little Bonus Challenge:

How many countries can you name that appear in the video?

(Which I believe is from the 2007 World Championships)

I don’t have the answer so the prize is the credit for naming them!

Monks Dyke Hockey Festival – Result

Posted by eastwoldblog on April 28, 2010

Congratulations to all 10 of the Hockey squad who took part in the Hockey Festival on Wednesday afternoon.

You were all brilliant!

Solid performances from everyone meant that we won our Group Stage:

P4 W3 D1 L0 F3 A0 GD+3 Pts 10

A hard fought Semi-Final was won in a ‘Sudden Death’ Penalty Shoot-Out, after a 1-1 draw at Full Time, thank s to a late goal by Super-Sub Daniel!

Well done to Alice in goal and Ellery who hit the back of the net with the winning penalty.

The Final was a good game with End-to-End action – but unfortunately Kidgate 2 came out on top winning 2-0.

Well done to everyone – every match played in a sportsman-like fashion and with a positive attitude.

This just leaves us with the detail of “Player of the Tournament” – Vote for your choice below.

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED! – Any votes cast from now will not count! Thank you for voting.

The Haka – A Traditional Maori War Dance

Posted by eastwoldblog on March 4, 2010

After today’s start to PE, I thought I would share some information about the Haka with you.

Rugby fans will recognise it as the dance that the New Zealand All Black perform before every International match.

There are many slightly different versions and each Captain does it slightly different, including me, my version differs a little from the video which you can watch below..

In this video from 2004, it is led by Tana Umanga, one of the most famous All Black captains of recent years.

Some people asked what the words meant.

It is the story of a Warrior Chief.

Ringa pakia,
Uma tiraha,
Turi whatia,
Hope whai ake,
Waewae takahia kia kino,

English Translation:
Slap the hands against the thighs
Puff out the chest
Bend the knees
Let the hip follow
Stamp the feet as hard as you can.

Ka Mate! Ka Mate!
Ka Ora! Ka Ora!
Tenei te ta ngata puhuru huru
Nana nei i tiki mai

Whakawhiti te ra
A upane ka upane!
A upane kaupane whiti te ra!
Hi!!

English Translation:

It is death! It is death!
It is life! It is life!
This is the hairy person
Who caused the sun to shine
Keep abreast! Keep abreast
The rank! Hold fast!
Into the sun that shines!

If you are feeling up for it – and you need to be, because you can’t do it half-heartedly!

I’ll teach you the full Haka.
